RUMBLE GYM in Surabaya is an Adidas Combat affiliated gym which caters for amateur and professional fighters across several disciplines including Boxing and Muay Thai.

We spoke to the owner of the gym Jeffry about getting through the pandemic, the history of the gym and what his plans are for the future as he looks to expand his empire.

1. TELL US ABOUT THE HISTORY OF RUMBLE, WHEN IT STARTED AND WHAT YOUR PLANS ARE MOVING FORWARD?
Established in March 2015 in Surabaya, the first branch was in Klampis in Surabaya, initially it was not established as a commercial gym, but more as a hobby / personal training center. Now it has become the largest commercial MMA camp in SURABAYA with 3 branches and upstream to downstream services. From providing general sports gyms, fighter/athlete gyms, home services through to selling martial arts apparel.
In addition, we also partner with big brands such as Adidas and will become event promoters holding big events in the future.

2. WERE YOU INVOLVED IN MARTIAL ARTS BEFORE RUMBLEMartial arts has been my passion since childhood and I learned all kinds of self-defense even though I'm not a professional athlete. My personal focus when it comes to stand up fighting is karate.

3. IS RUMBLE ABOUT SERIOUS BOXING, BOXING FITNESS OR BOTH?

Both of them. We divide it into different spaces, there are people who do not know martial arts who can enter and enjoy self-defense as a sports lifestyle, and we also provide a space for athletes/fighters ata more serious level who want a career in martial arts.

5. TELL US ABOUT YOUR TRAINERS AT RUMBLE

There are several senior coaches from my friends who have been professional athletes at SEA games, PON and are now retired, but they love martial arts and have been around since the first Rumble opened up. There are also junior trainers who are still active as athletes and train while building professional athletes. The coach for our senior athletes is myself.

6. WHAT IN YOUR OPINION ARE THE MAIN BENEFITS FOR PEOPLE LOOKING TO TAKE UP BOXING OR MARTIAL ARTS?

The most important thing is that everyone can be physically and mentally formed through boxing and martial arts in accordance with Rumble's motto, "Encourage People Mentally & Physically Through Martial Arts".

7. HOW DID RUMBLE GET THROUGH THE PANDEMIC?

During the pandemic it was not easy, closing one branch at PTC mall and Rumble has regressed back to the same phase when it was initially open, becoming a private sporting location because it cannot operate as normal with open classes while waiting for the pandemic to end.
